Here's a great way to use those donuts that sat out a little too long and are now stale. Don't throw them away! Try this decadent dish.
Ingredients:
- 4 stale glazed donuts
- 1/2 cup raisins (any dried fruit can also be used)
- 2 room temperature eggs
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 2 Tbsp. white sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp. almond extract (optional)
- 1 tsp. freshly grated orange zest
- 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a small baking dish.
- In the prepared baking dish, break the donuts into bite-size pieces and mix in raisins. Set to the side.
- In a medium bowl, blend all remaining ingredients, mixing well.
- Pour the mixture over the donuts and raisins and let it stand for at least 15 minutes, giving the donuts time to absorb the liquid.
- Before putting in the oven, place the baking dish in a larger one and fill the outer dish enough to cover halfway up the sides.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick or knife inserted in the middle comes out clean.
- Serve warm.
