Here's a great way to use those donuts that sat out a little too long and are now stale. Don't throw them away! Try this decadent dish.

Ingredients:

  • 4 stale glazed donuts
  • 1/2 cup raisins (any dried fruit can also be used)
  • 2 room temperature eggs
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 2 Tbsp. white sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp. almond extract (optional)
  • 1 tsp. freshly grated orange zest
  • 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a small baking dish.
  2. In the prepared baking dish, break the donuts into bite-size pieces and mix in raisins. Set to the side.
  3. In a medium bowl, blend all remaining ingredients, mixing well.
  4. Pour the mixture over the donuts and raisins and let it stand for at least 15 minutes, giving the donuts time to absorb the liquid.
  5. Before putting in the oven, place the baking dish in a larger one and fill the outer dish enough to cover halfway up the sides.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick or knife inserted in the middle comes out clean.
  7. Serve warm.
